Senior center food shelf

{ Pipestone County Food Shelf }

The Pipestone County Food Shelf has been serving the area since 1983. Once a week we open our shelves and coolers to provide much needed food access to our clients. We are a non-profit that operates through generous monetary, food and volunteer time donations from community members, local businesses, churches, and partnerships with state and regional agencies.
What we do for the community:
  • Distribute meats, fruits, vegetables and more to community members in need
  • 2019 (non-pandemic affected year)
    - Distributed 147,852 pounds of food (113,732 meals)
    - Served 1,877 households
    - Served 6,114 individuals
  • Build community through volunteer arrangements with 17 local churches
  • Provide nourishing food sources to all ages

What this project will accomplish:
  • Increase usage by 65+ age group
  • Improve Food Shelf floor plan to enhance offerings
  • Develop two GroSheds
    - Activity for senior citizens and youth education
    - Provides locally grown vegetables
  • Expand ethnic food options through additional space
